Wellington Eye Clinic Milestones
The clinic provides an extensive contact lens fitting service. We can provide soft lenses, RGP lenses, multifocal and toric contact lenses. The clinic also provides a specialist contact lens fitting service for keratoconus and post corneal graft patients.
During your contact lens fitting appointment the optometrist will perform a sight test and check the health of the front of your eye (your cornea, lids and conjunctiva). They will take a detailed history and discuss with you the many options available to you with regards to contact lenses. Together you will decide which is the best option for you based on their recommendations.
If the contact lenses that you choose is in stock then the optometrist will proceed with fitting the lenses that day. They will spend time with you teaching you how to insert and remove the lenses and advise you with regards to hygiene and cleaning the lenses. Once both of you are happy to proceed you are given some trial lenses to take home and try. The optometrist will see you again over the next few weeks to assess the fit and power of the lens and to check the health of the eye with the lens in place. If they are happy with this then they will order lenses for you. They will see you every 6 months to a year to review the health of your eyes, the fit and power of the contact lenses. They will also keep you informed of any new contact lens products that become available on the market and give you free trials of the lenses for you to try.

It may take several lenses to find the best fitting most comfortable lens for you for this reason we allow 1 hour to fit the lenses.
Each lens is made to your specifications and usually takes 2 weeks to order. On your collection appointment the optometrist will assess the fitting of your new lenses. Often, with keratoconus, the lenses may need to be refitted more than once this is to ensure that the optometrist is satisfied with your vision and fitting of the contact lenses and that you are comfortable and happy with your lenses.
