Arthur Cummings, MD Honored for Outstanding Accomplishments and Contributions to Refractive Surgery

Dr. Cummings Presented with Esteemed Global Ambassador Award at Ophthalmology Convention in Austria

Dublin, June 26, 2006. During last weekend’s annual meeting of WaveLight Users in Vienna, Austria, Dr. Arthur Cummings of the Wellington Eye Clinic in Dublin was the first European physician presented with the Global Ambassador Award by the German laser manufacturer, WaveLight AG.  Dr. Cummings was recognized for of his dedication and involvement in the advancement of refractive surgery and for his leadership in introducing new technology to physicians around the world. 

Dr. Cummings was one of the first surgeons in the world to adopt the innovative ALLEGRETTO WAVEÔ excimer laser for refractive laser vision correction. Today, he is one of the most experienced users of this state-of-the-art technology.

“Dr. Cummings’ support of WaveLight and the ALLEGRETTO WAVE has been unrelenting,” said Max Reindl, CEO of WaveLight.  “He was instrumental in early introduction of the ALLEGRETTO WAVE and continues to be a key educator and expert reference to our newer users.  We are honored to present him with an award that celebrates his contributions not just to our user community, but to the whole of the refractive industry.”

The Global Ambassador Award is presented annually to one physician who excels in his efforts to educate the refractive community, demonstrates leadership in introducing and advancing new technology, and shows an outstanding level of dedication to his patients and his community.  This is only the 2nd award that has been made to date by the company.

Dr. Cummings said in his acceptance speech at the gala event that he was delighted to be associated with Wavelight and that being able to offer this type of advanced technology to his patients was a privilege.  He also mentioned that it appeared to him as though all very successful people always surround themselves with excellence in terms of the people that they work with. This was a principle that would do anyone wishing to excel a world of good.

The Wellington Eye Clinic has been at the cutting edge of refractive surgery for the past 30 years but this international recognition by the world’s most imminent laser manufacturer has certainly been its crowning glory.
