Costs

The laser procedures cost € 2050 per eye (LASIK or LASEK) for wavefront-optimized surgery and € 2200 per eye for customized surgery (this includes the widest range of customization available anywhere in Ireland):

a) wavefront-guided (using wavefront maps to drive the treatment)
b) topography-guided (using topography maps to further refine the treatment)
c) tomography-guided (using Pentacam maps to further refine the treatment)
d) custom-Q (expanding the optical zone even further)

After your evaluation by a consultant ophthalmologist, we will know which procedure suits you best. The wavefront-optimized option (€ 2050) is the procedure that is used most widely and constitutes over 85% of the procedures that we perform.

The fees are tax deductible at 22% or 42% depending on the rate of income tax you pay. The forms for claiming back tax (Med 1) are available at the clinic.

VHI customers receive a 15% discount on the fee if they apply online on the VHI website.

There are no costs for enhancement surgery. This includes a LIFETIME WARRANTY so even if the enhancement surgery is 10 years after the initial procedure. (This applies to procedures performed after 2004)

If the initial procedure was wavefront-optimized and we decide the best enhancement surgery may be customized, there is no additional charge for this.

We believe that this provides amazing value for money.

Consider the following:

Most glasses wearers (especially people that are short-sighted) start wearing glasses in their teens. Most will wear their glasses life-long and will start using Bifocals or Varifocals around 45 years of age. Most contact lens wearers have back-up glasses too for when they are not wearing contact lenses.

Let’s look at the cost saving just through the working years of 20 to 60 years of age for this example. LASIK is suitable for people older than 60 years of age but for the sake of simplicity, we will use 20 to 60 yrs. We realize too that people work well beyond the age of 60 yrs but again, for simplicity, we will use the 40 years between 20 and 60 yrs of age.

20 yrs – 44 yrs: glasses every 2 years on average (single focus glasses) at an average of € 250 per pair.
45 – 60 yrs: glasses every 2 years (multifocal glasses) at an average cost of € 400 per pair.
Contact lenses: up to € 500 per annum throughout this period.

The table below shows the potential costs excluding professional fees or solutions, spare glasses, prescription sun glasses, etc

Compare this with a once-off fee of € 4100 with the following benefits:

    • Cost-savings as illustrated above
    • Saving you the hassle of glasses and contact lenses and all that goes with it
    • Liberating you to do all the things you’ve always dreamed of that glasses or contact lenses hinder
    • Having the peace of mind that the Wellington Eye Clinic has performed more than 25000 procedures here in Dublin. The 2 surgeons have a combined experience of almost 30 years doing laser surgery and almost 40 years doing other eye surgery.  All of our staff live and work in Dublin and are highly qualified. Many of them have had laser eye surgery at the Wellington Eye Clinic and therefore have a special empathy with patients coming in for consultations or surgery.
