The Cost-Saving Investment of Laser Eye Surgery

The greatest saving from Laser Eye Surgery is the avoidance of the alternative costs of glasses and contact lenses. You might not believe it at first but living with glasses and contact lenses, even over as short as a five-year period, is actually more expensive than the once off investment of Laser Eye Surgery. Allow us to reiterate that point: along with the life enhancing freedom that laser eye surgery brings it is also less expensive than the awkward, inconvenient, uncomfortable alternative of glasses and contact lenses.

Consider the following: Most glasses wearers (especially people that are short-sighted) start wearing glasses in their teens or before. Most will wear their glasses life-long and will start using Bifocals or Varifocals around 45 years of age and many will also have a constant supply of contact lenses. Most contact lens wearers too have back-up glasses too for when they are not wearing contact lenses.

The average glasses wearer will replace a pair of glasses every year (including spare pairs and prescription sunglasses). The cost of single focus glasses including frames and lenses is about €200. The cost of multifocal glasses including frames and lenses is about €350. For regular users contact lenses cost anywhere between €300 and €500 per annum depending on the type of lenses. The cost of these alternatives over a five, ten and twenty year period are detailed in the following table. These costs exclude the potential costs of eye tests, professional fees, contact solutions and accessories.

10 years

€4,000

€6,750

20 years

€8,000

So depending on the immediate discounts available to you, Laser Eye Surgery may already be a cheaper alternative to glasses or contact lenses over as little as a five year period. Either way you are certain to be saving money while you are enjoying your life over the longer term ten or twenty year periods.

Taking that model and applying it to a real life example of a lifelong glasses user who maintained a regular supply of contact lenses we can see even more evidence of the tangible cost saving benefits of Laser Eye Surgery.  Even though many people work beyond retirement age and Laser Eye Surgery is suitable for people older than 65, for the sake of simplicity we will use 20 to 65 years as a typical working lifetime. Again these costs exclude the potential costs of eye tests, professional fees, contact solutions and accessories.

Compare this with a once-off fee of € 4100 or less with the following benefits:

- Cost-savings as illustrated above

- Saving you the hassle of glasses and contact lenses and all that goes with it

- Liberating you to do all the things you’ve always dreamed of that glasses or contact lenses hinder

- Having the peace of mind that the Wellington Eye Clinic has performed more than 25000 procedures here in Dublin.

The two surgeons have a combined experience of almost 30 years doing laser surgery and almost 40 years doing other eye surgery. All of our staff live and work in Dublin and are highly qualified. Many of them have had laser eye surgery at the Wellington Eye Clinic and therefore have a special empathy with patients coming in for consultations or surgery.
