There are 3 main areas where research is being conducted at the WEC.
- Laser surgery
- Corneal cross-linking for keratoconus
- IOL power calculation for cataract surgery

Ray Tracing Study: Enrolment has been completed and the preliminary results of this very exciting new technology have just been presented at the WaveLight User Meeting held in Dublin in June 2010.
WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond laser: this newest femtosecond laser has already raised the bar in terms of outcomes for laser surgery, Intacs and corneal transplantation.
WaveLight EX500 Excimer laser: this is the newest laser from WaveLight. It has features too numerous to mention and the early results are being studied and compared to our existing database.
The WEC publishes / presents at least 10 papers per annum on topics related to new developments and outcomes in laser surgery

CXL is being researched in many different areas:
The effect of hypotonic vs. isotonic Riboflavin on the outcomes of CXL
The reduction in CXL treatment times by increasing fluence of the UV light
The combination of CXL and Intacs
The combination of topography-guided PRK and CXL (SimLC)
The new Keraflex system from Avedra, one of only 5 in the world, is being researched at the WEC
