Laser surgery

Ray Tracing Study: Enrolment has been completed and the preliminary results of this very exciting new technology have just been presented at the WaveLight User Meeting held in Dublin in June 2010.

WaveLight FS200 Femtosecond laser: this newest femtosecond laser has already raised the bar in terms of outcomes for laser surgery, Intacs and corneal transplantation.

WaveLight EX500 Excimer laser: this is the newest laser from WaveLight. It has features too numerous to mention and the early results are being studied and compared to our existing database.

The WEC publishes / presents at least 10 papers per annum on topics related to new developments and outcomes in laser surgery

Corneal Cross-Linking

CXL is being researched in many different areas:

The effect of hypotonic vs. isotonic Riboflavin on the outcomes of CXL

The reduction in CXL treatment times by increasing fluence of the UV light

The combination of CXL and Intacs

The combination of topography-guided PRK and CXL (SimLC)

The new Keraflex system from Avedra, one of only 5 in the world, is being researched at the WEC

HR

IOL Power Calculations

The WEC is involved in collaboration with other partners in developing techniques to make IOL power calculations more accurate.
