Mr. Richard Corkin

Originally from Belfast, Mr. Corkin trained as an eye specialist in South Africa. He has over 12 years experience in private practice. An accomplished cataract and refractive surgeon, he helped establish the Peninsula Eye Clinic in Cape Town in 1995. Mr. Corkin returned to Ireland in 2001 to join the Wellington Eye Clinic.

Mr. Arthur Cummings

Mr. Cummings has been at the Clinic since 1998 after relocating from South Africa. He has vast experience in LASIK and refractive surgery and is an internationally renowned expert on customised laser treatments. Yet he retains a strong interest in general ophthalmology including cataract surgery. He continues to be involved in the latest developments in ophthalmology.

Mr. Declan Hovenden

Head Optometrist
Having joined the Clinic in 1995, Mr. Hovenden is now the senior optometrist. He forms an important part of the refractive surgery team and provides a comprehensive optometric service.

Dr. Paul Kenna
M.B.,D.O, F.R.C.S.I.
Consultant Ophthalmologist
Dr. Kenna has been in the practise of ophthalmology at the clinic for more than 12 years, particularly in the assessment of patients for refractive surgery. He has a long-standing interest in inherited eye diseases, including diseases of the retina, glaucoma and myopia, and has established a world wide reputation in the field. He is the author of over 50 peer review scientific papers.

Lisa has many years of experience in the field of ophthalmic nursing since joining the Wellington Clinic in 1992. She is responsible for the daily running of the laser suite and works alongside a team of professional nurses to ensure the highest standard of patient care.

Anne Marie Masterson

Optometrist
As one of the clinic’s optometrists, Anne-Marie is involved with pre and post-operative patient care. She is a vital part of the clinic’s team in assisting surgeons in theatre. In addition, she provides a full optometric and contact lens fitting service.

The Wellington Eye Clinic was founded in 1980 by Mr. Frank Lavery. Since then, it has expanded its premises and services. In December 2006 the Clinic relocated from its Ballsbridge premises to its state-of-the-art new premises in the Beacon Medical Campus in Sandyford.

The Clinic introduced laser refractive surgery to Ireland in 1990. Only the most advanced and safest laser technology is used to treat our patients. All the procedures are performed in 2 dedicated operating theatres within the Clinic. Surgeons from all over the world attend the Clinic to learn these advanced surgical techniques. The Clinic was awarded the status of Global Ambassador Clinic for the Wavelight Laser Company in 2006.

Surgeons and optometrists at the Wellington Eye Clinic are trained to treat all ophthalmic conditions. In addition, our surgeons subspecialise in anterior segment surgery (i.e. corneal, glaucoma and lens surgery). They are on the specialist register of the Irish Medical Council. To date, we have performed over 22,000 surgical procedures.
